Conway is a city in the U.S. state of Arkansas and the county seat of Faulkner County, located in Central Arkansas. Conway is home to three post-secondary educational institutions, earning the nickname "The City of Colleges." The University of Central Arkansas (founded as Little Rock Junior College), Hendrix College (originally Central College), and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Conway's largest employer, are located in or near Conway. Two private for-profit post-secondary institutions also operate in Conway: Clinton College and Gateway Technical College.
Conway is also home to three public school districts: Conway Public Schools, which serves the city itself; Little River (AR) School District; and Mayflower (AR) Schools. Conway is home to Oak Grove High School (in the Little River (AR) School District), which was recognized as a 2011 College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Program of Excellence Award winner.
Conway has one public hospital, Conway Regional Medical Center, and two private hospitals: Hendrix Health and Baptist Health.
The Conway Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is the only hospital in Faulkner County. CRMC was established in 1948 by three hospitals: Hillcrest Hospital (founded in 1887), St. Joseph's Hospital (founded in 1909), and Mobile Memorial Hospital (founded in 1941). CRMC has 243 licensed beds and more than 1,000 employees. The CRMC provides a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including open-heart surgery and robotic-assisted surgery. The CRMC is mainly concerned with heart disease, orthopedics, and neurosurgery. The hospital offers a 24/7 emergency department that is the only one in Faulkner County.
The Hendrix Health hospital is a 31-bed acute care hospital offering many medical services, including the Hendrix Health Center Women's Clinic, which provides family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, nutritional counseling, breast health services, and other women's healthcare needs.
The Baptist Health-Conway is an unaffiliated rehabilitation hospital with a 49-bed critical access hospital with nearly 60 physicians providing inpatient and outpatient medical care. The hospital also has an emergency department, an intensive care unit, and a cardiac catheterization lab. It offers free services to anyone who is not insured and discounted services to those with insurance coverage. The hospital specializes in orthopedic rehabilitation.
